Tales from the Towpath
Images and stories from the Lee Navigation
Tales from the Towpath was a creative project that celebrated the people and stories of Edmonton’s canal. Over two weeks residing aboard Barge Fiodra, moored near Alfie’s Lock, I worked with boaters, anglers, and towpath users to co-create analogue photographs and gather personal reflections on what makes this waterway so meaningful.
Photos were captured using a pinhole Kodak Brownie and a 100-year-old Avus folding-plate camera, then developed by hand in a darkroom set up on the boat. The photos were exhibited onboard in a celebratory exhibition, alongside archive images from the local Archive.
The project was part of Untold Edmonton — an Enfield Council arts programme funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. A huge thank you to Bob, skipper of Barge Fiodra.
